Made for Praise! Lesson 4/8 - Yadah

What is praise and worship? Are there different ways to praise the Lord? What’s it for? How do we do it? The following lessons help kids explore what it means to praise the Lord, and the amazing power and results we can get from doing it. Different words in the Bible are translated as “praise,” and each of them describes a different way to praise.

Today’s Hebrew Praise Word: Yadah which means to lift hands, especially in giving thanks or asking for help! Moses did this when help up his hands with his rod during the Israelites' fight with the Amalekites. As long as he held up his hands, the Israelites would win the battle. Finally Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands when he got tired! Check it out in Exodus 17:8-16.

Here’s our teaching video that talks all about this: Made for Praise - Lesson 4 - Yadah

And here’s a video about this Bible Story: Moses Defeats Amalekites; Faith Kids

When someone is given a gift they’ve wanted for a long time, they naturally reach with their hands to give thanks to the giver — often with a hug. This is what Yadah looks like, and this is part of why we lift our hands in church worship today — to give thanks to God. Another way Yadah looks like is when a child falls or needs help from their parents. They naturally reach out with their hands asking for help. What’s so special about Yadah is they fully expect to receive help! We can also fully expect to receive help from God when we life our hands to Him!

And that brings us to our praise motto this week: When I praise the Lord, God does miracles!
